I Am a True Nigerian

Chelsea star insists he’s committed to Eagle's cause.

Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has declared that he is ever committed to Nigeria as he expressed joy at helping the country to qualify for the 2013 African Cup of Nations following the 6-1 victory over the Lone Star of Liberia in Calabar on Saturday.

The Chelsea star who scored a goal in the 6-1 massacre of the Liberians said coming back to play for Nigeria was quite exciting to him as he praised the home-based players' effort at making the team stronger.

More when you continue......
“I feel great and happy to be back playing for my country, I have no problem with anybody and I will always be ready to play. I am committed and the coaches understood that very well but I am saying it here that I am ever committed to play for Nigerians,” insists Mikel.

Mikel who also spoke ahead of the African Cup of Nations in South Africa next year said Nigeria has the quality players that can make the dream of winning the Nations Cup possible but says the players would have to work very hard to win the tournament.

“I will not say Nigeria cannot win the Nations Cup because we have many talented players in the team and everybody is ready to do his best to make sure that Nigeria win the trophy again but that will take a lot of effort to make it possible. We need to work hard as a team and prepare very well because it has been long we won the trophy last and I believe we can do it again.

He however said coach Stephen Keshi needs a lot of support from Nigerians to excel as the South Africa tournament.

“The coach is doing well and I am happy playing under him but he needs the support of everybody to well in the Nations Cup.”
